Launches of POLREC Innovation open call

The first POLREC open call is now open! This Innovation open call aims to support SMEs by funding their polymer recycling projects. It is divided into three sub-topic that will support:

  • Testing of solutions for the chemical recycling of polymer waste (plastics, rubber, composites), with a maximum budget of €30,000 per SME.
  • Testing solutions for the mechanical recycling of polymer waste (plastics, rubber, composites), with a maximum budget of €30,000 per SME.
  • Digitisation of polymer waste recycling processes to ensure traceability and control, with a maximum budget of €20,000 per SME.

The successful SMEs will be awarded a budget based on the quote from their service provider. This budget will be used exclusively to pay for the services provided as part of the project carried out by the SME.

POLREC Newsletter N°1

The European project POLREC is funded by the Euroclusters programme of the European Commission. This initiative supports projects that promote the implementation of the new European industrial strategy in industrial ecosystems.

The main objective of the project is to help the industry change from landfilling and burning practices of polymeric waste to mechanical and/or chemical recycling and aims to support and encourage SMEs to adopt recycling processes and use recycled raw materials, with the ambition of contributing to the increased use of recycled polymer-based raw materials, in Europe, to 40% in the next 10 years.

Launch of the European project THERMOFIRE

We are glad to announce the launch of the European project THERMOFIRE – Bio-based fire-retardant thermoplastic composites reinforced with natural fibres - funded by Horizon Europe, started on June, 1st 2023.

The project THERMOFIRE has the objective to develop novel bio-based and recyclable composites with enhanced mechanical properties and fire resistance by using natural fiber reinforcements and bio-based halogen-free flame retardants. The production of these novel composite materials will be scaled up and 3 types of demonstrators will be developed (for aerospace, automotive and textile applications). Through the development of such advanced materials, THERMOFIRE will contribute in EU’s independence towards fossil based polymers.
