POLYMERIS au lancement du projet ANR TWINLOOP : vers une économie circulaire des emballages plastiques alimentaires
On June 4, 2025, POLYMERIS had the pleasure of participating in the Kick-Off Meeting of the TWINLOOP project, accredited by the cluster as part of the 2024 "Alimentarity" Call for Projects from the French National Research Agency (ANR). This launch day was held on the Agro Paris-Saclay campus, attended by all the academic, industrial, and institutional partners involved in this ambitious project.
A Structural Project for the Circularity of Plastics
Coordinated by the SayFood Joint Research Unit (UMR), the TWINLOOP project aims to develop a systemic approach to the circular economy applied to plastic food packaging. It aims to combine technological innovations, environmental assessment, and sector structuring to optimize recycling loops with a view to sustainability.
Labeled by POLYMERIS, this project mobilizes a wide diversity of academic actors (INRAE, ONIRIS, Mines Paris-PSL, CEA, University of Rouen, University of Burgundy Europe and University of Bordeaux), technical centers (LNE, CTCPA, CTIPC, INERIS and Canoe) and industrial (ANIA, PAPREC, CITEO, Horiba, KREATiS, Pure Laboratoire and IFS-Tech), all united around a common objective: to rethink the life cycle of plastic packaging by integrating the health, technical and economic constraints of their reuse.
A day rich in exchanges
After an introductory speech by Catherine Bonazzi, Director of the UMR SayFood, the morning was devoted to an overall presentation of the project and a presentation by the ANR. The project team – Sandra Domenek, Phuong-Mai Nguyen, Pauline Rieu, Alkistis Kympari, and Daniel Goujot – outlined the broad outlines of TWINLOOP and its ambitions.
The industrial and technical partners – ANIA, CITEO, PAPREC, CTCPA, CTIPC and LNE – then presented their involvement and role in the project.
The afternoon provided an opportunity to detail the five work packages (WP) structuring the project, each being managed by a key player:
- WP1: Sample collection and creation of a chemical signal library – led by ONIRIS and LNE
- WP2: Material classification using chemometrics and artificial intelligence – led by INRAE and URN
- WP3: Toxicological assessment and material safety – led by INERIS
- WP4: Development of pilot-scale technological solutions – led by CTCPA
- WP5: Structuring, communication, and dissemination – led by ANIA
POLYMERIS, a catalyst for innovation
As a competitiveness cluster dedicated to polymers, plastics, and composites, POLYMERIS is delighted to support the TWINLOOP project throughout its development phases, particularly through the dissemination of results, networking among stakeholders, and relaying information to relevant industrial ecosystems.
This project perfectly illustrates POLYMERIS's mission: to unite research and industry stakeholders around innovative projects with a strong environmental and societal impact.
