Polymeris continues to expand internationally in a changing business environment

Against a volatile international backdrop, Polymeris is closely monitoring developments in US customs measures. Following the introduction of 25% tariffs on steel, aluminum and then on imports of automobiles and certain auto parts, the Trump administration has introduced an additional 10% tariff on U.S. imports from the European Union for a period of 90 days from April 9. This measure replaces an additional surtax of 20%, originally scheduled to take effect on the same date, but suspended for 90 days. Polymeris is planning two events to support its members' international activities. On May 7, from 3 pm to 4:30 pm, a webinar dedicated to quebec's polymer ecosystem to discover the dynamics of the sector in Quebec, with the participation of local clusters and partners, and feedback from SMEs on exploring the Quebec market in a context where Canada is redefining its trade strategy to reduce its dependence on the United States. The event will also be an opportunity to share business opportunities, with a more detailed presentation of the free trade agreement signed between Canada and the EU, and the launch of the Global Polymers Marketplace dedicated to the international polymer market. On June 6, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Polymeris International Committee will also provide an opportunity to discuss the global trade situation, with a review of missions and trade shows (POLREC mission to Quebec, PRSE, Chinaplas), a presentation of the mission to Ireland in September, and an update on upcoming events and trade shows in 2025 and 2026. The committee will also provide a forum for discussion on the impact of US customs policies and the collective actions to be envisaged.
